JEC Investment Competition

We are so excited to announce the first Junior Economic Club's MarketWatch Investment Competition! This competition is a great opportunity for you to get more involved with JEC, build your knowledge of investing, and stay up-to-date with the stock market. The competition will officially begin on August 3rd and conclude on October 2nd.

Additionally, the top three winners of the competition will win prizes! The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive $20, $15, and $10 Amazon gift cards, respectively. For those unfamiliar with MarketWatch, it is a website for traders seeking financial information, business news, analysis, and stock market data. MarketWatch’s Virtual Stock Exchange is a friendly game for students to build a virtual portfolio and react to the markets in real time while competing against one another! If you are interested in joining the competition, please sign-up on this Google Form by Sunday, August 2nd and join our mandatory meeting this Monday, August 3rd from 11:00-11:30am where we will show how to create a MarketWatch account and further explain the MarketWatch platform as well as the guidelines of the competition.

The investment competition is a speculative game that allows JEC Members to trade stocks, futures, or currency in a virtual or simulated market environment.

The Investment competition's basic underlying concept is that this competition allows members to gain experience or just entertainment by trading stocks in a virtual world where there is no real risk. The investment competition does not involve real money in any way. Players compete with each other to see who can predict the direction the stock markets will go next. Many stock market games are based on real-life stocks from the Nasdaq, NYSE, AMEX, or other major market indexes.

The Investment competition is used for educational purposes to teach potential stock traders and future stock brokers how to trade stocks.

We look forward to seeing many of you at Monday's meeting, and as always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at nycboard@junioreconomicclub.org.
